Hair Restoration
EMPIRE’s Non-Surgical Hair Restoration Treatment Using PRP

Why Is PRP effective in promoting Hair Restoration?

Our blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and other essential specific autologous growth factors that promote tissue regeneration and healing. In the case of hair restoration, the PRP serves to promote the growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells located in the Dermal Papilla along with the other cell structures present in the hair follicle.

The Platelets contain many intracellular structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These granules house the clotting and growth factors that are eventually released during the healing and repair process.

The PRP specific cells that induce hair growth include:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) – promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication & skin formation
  • Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b) – promotes growth of matrix between cells & bone metabolism
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – promotes blood vessel formation
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) – promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation and collagen formation
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor – 2 (FGF-2) – promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation
  • Insulin-like Growth Factor – (IGF) – a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body

How is the procedure performed?

At EMPIRE, blood is drawn from the patient and processed using the Harvest SmartPReP APC+™ centrifuge system. The results from the procedure depend on the concentration of the Platelets in the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). The Harvest SmartPReP APC+™ is at the forefront of the industry and is scientifically proven to increase the Platelet count to between 4-6 times above the base. This dramatically increases the efficacy of the procedure.

After centrifugation, the platelets and other vital growth proteins, which are separated from the Platelet-Poor Plasma, are injected into the sub-dermis of the scalp of the patient under a topical anesthesia. Published data shows that for best results, the procedure should be performed every month for the first 3 sessions after which subsequent treatments should be done quarterly.

The use of PRP for hair restoration is a recent innovation that has gained a lot of traction in the West. In Asia or the Philippines, PRP as a modality of treatment for hair loss, is not as readily offered. The EMPIRE Centre for Regenerative Medicine is the first in Manila and the Philippines to offer PRP as a treatment/solution for patients suffering from hair loss.

It is important to note that the Harvest SmartPReP APC+™ centrifuge system is the leading system available in the market that guarantees the efficacy of this treatment.

SEDATION

The treatment area is anesthetized with a topical anesthesia.

DOWNTIME

There is minimal downtime with some patients experiencing temporary swelling and redness, which will subside in the hours following the procedure.
